A manufacturer of agricultural machinery.
This client was entering the Brazilian market and needed to translate their technical specifications which, among many other files, included the plans for their machines (all created in AutoCAD). They needed to start their expansion on the right foot and we were hired to help.
We put together a team of translators with expertise in translating industrial content for the Brazilian market and kept up fluid communication with the client all through the project in case a specific term needed to be clarified.
On the graphic design side of the project, we had to carefully extract all the text from the CAD drawings and then re-insert it once it was translated. This required the translators to consult the original files constantly in order to have a full understanding of the context of each string of text, and demanded a thorough quality assurance process that guaranteed that the translations were correct and in the right place. It was a long process but the end results spoke for themselves.
This project required patience and hard work but the end result was a successful entry to the Brazilian market on the part of the client.
A well-known brand of lathes.
To translate the user manual of their latest CNC lathe to 8 different languages. The user manual included the user interface, but the interface itself wasn’t planned for translation. This was an additional challenge, as the operators would have a manual in their native language, but the lathe’s UI would still be in English.
First of all, it was critical to secure the right resources for the job, so we put together 8 teams of technical translators, with one person in charge of collecting queries and distributing answers among all the translation teams.
We examined the source documents and created a small glossary with the most common terms and translated it to all the languages in order to use it as reference for the rest of the translation.
To address the UI challenge, we proposed that UI items be dual rendered. This means that the English UI items would be maintained, and the translation was to be added between brackets. The customer agreed that this approach was the best for ease of understanding.
The manual also displayed complex graphics and diagrams that were handled by our graphic design team, who also took care of the final formatting of the manual for each language.
The new CNC lathe was released to 8 different markets with its corresponding user manual. The project went so well that the client is planning to release their next product to the same 8 markets.
A major automotive company in the US.
To translate the datasheets and marketing material of 20 different car models.
The automotive industry has its own language when it comes to terminology. When you start browsing automotive content, there’s a specific style and level of writing that you expect. A style that has the right mix between technical correctness and communication finesse.
With that in mind, we put together a team of translators with experience in the automotive industry. The people selected had the right background for the job: Years of experience dealing with the engineering aspects of the industry, as well as a solid experience creating translated marketing copy.
To begin the translation process, the team created a glossary of key terms and sent it to the client for approval before we could start with the translation itself. It was key that the team of translators and the client be on the same page regarding the terminology that would be used.
When it was time to deal with the marketing materials, one of our senior designers was appointed to take care of touching up the final layouts, so that the copies in each language looked just like the original English files.
The end result was a set of perfectly translated datasheets and high quality marketing brochures that were ready for printing before the deadline. The project was a success from start to finish.
