A famous fastfood chain.
Translating large employee handbooks for their locations in Latin America. There was a short time for delivering the translated material and, needless to say, the quality needed to be top-notch.
Since the TAT required was short, we put together a large team of translators with years of experience working with corporate content, with a senior reviewer in charge of the quality. One of the key problems of working with such a large team was keeping the terminology consistent. After all, it is important that the same concept be translated in the same way across all the handbooks to avoid any confusion.
As a solution to this, we put in place an additional step in the QA process, in which we used a tool to check for consistency both internally on each file and across files. Any differences found were resolved by our reviewer, who would choose a term and inform the rest of the team about it, at the same time that a central glossary of approved terms was updated.
Another key problem was the reading level. It was important that the hanbooks be easy to read and understand by all employees, regardless of their level of education, so we decided to keep the style simple, direct and informative.
We managed to deliver the project on time, maintaining top quality standards. The client has come back to us regularly ever since then.
A world-renowned food production company with headquarters in Switzerland.
The client was opening a new production plant abroad and needed to train their newly-hired local staff on how to operate the machines and make sure they learned the production process.
The operation manuals for the machines included technical terms and critical safety instructions that needed to be translated flawlessly.
Our designers worked to recreate the format of the old files and produced new editable versions. These versions were not only useful for the translations process: they were delivered along with the translations so that the client would have them as well. For this project, it was key to establish effective communication between our reviewer and the client’s subject matter experts.
After all, the files were full of technical terminology that needed to be translated correctly and just the way the client wanted. Query management was also important: on one hand, to avoid overwhelming the client with questions and, and on the other hand, to make sure that once we received the answers the information flowed to the translators without delays.
The QA process in place was detailed and thorough, as we were dealing with content related to safety. The end result was very well worth the effort.
The client used the translations we provided to train their staff and open their new production facilities. Since then, they have hired us for other projects and continue to be an Australis client.
A major global company that produces cloth and fabric fasteners.
The client created an anti-harassment policy in the workspace that needed to be distributed to 10 subsidiaries worldwide. It was a very delicate subject that needed to be treated with utmost care for the local cultural nuances.
After discussing the job with the customer, Australis proceeded to select the best translators and editors for the job. For each language, we selected those with extensive experience in the HR field and, as always, we only worked with in-country translation professionals that have a thorough understanding of the local culture.
This was a critical step: When dealing with such a complex matter, you need to make sure that there’s no room for misinterpretation. Each language team created a first draft of the translation that was sent to the customer so that they could ask their local HR departments for feedback.
Once the customer’s feedback was received, the final localized policies were created and delivered to the customer.
All the subsidiaries were very happy with their localized policy. The local teams received a copy of the policy that looked as if it was originally written in their own language, which maximized employee engagement and adherence.
